Postal Service Overview

Samoa Post is the Independent State of Samoa’s postal operator. Samoa’s philatelic history reflects the islands’ complex geopolitical past: the kingdom-era stamps (1877–1900), German Samoa stamps (1900–1914), New Zealand mandate stamps (1914–1962), and independent Western Samoa/Samoa stamps from 1962. The Eastern Samoan islands (American Samoa) remain a US territory with separate postal arrangements. Samoa is the cradle of Polynesian culture and its stamps reflect this extraordinary heritage — traditional tapa cloth, fautasi long-boat racing, and Robert Louis Stevenson’s Samoan connections.

Notable Stamp Issues

Samoa’s kingdom-era stamps (1877–1900) are fascinating Pacific rarities — depicting the Samoan express stamp and various provisional issues during a chaotic political period.
